Meet Hilary, the founder of HS Design + Build.

I grew up with a contractor dad who had me on jobsites as soon as I could hold a tape measure. Those early days—sawdust, tool belts, riding along in the truck—are what sparked my lifelong love for building and creating spaces. I worked for my dad’s company all through my childhood and teens, until I headed to Pittsburgh to study Interior Design.

Over the years, I’ve worked on just about everything: airports, restaurants, retail environments, multifamily housing, and high-end residential projects. But something was missing. I loved the design, but I missed the hands-on, boots-on-the-ground part of bringing spaces to life.

That changed when my partner and I bought a duplex in the Old North End of Burlington. While working full-time in architecture, I spent nights and weekends renovating the units—and it felt like coming home. The hammer, the problem-solving, the creativity, the transformation… all of it reminded me exactly why I fell in love with this work as a kid.

That’s when I realized:
I want to design beautiful, functional, affordable homes and I want to be part of the entire process—from the first sketch to the final finish nail.

And that’s how HS Design + Build came to be.

Today, we pride ourselves on warm communication, a positive attitude, and a can-do spirit. Our team is down-to-earth, collaborative, and genuinely loves solving tricky space problems. We’re passionate about maximizing storage, stretching budgets, and creating homes that feel personal, practical, and welcoming.

Whether it's a small renovation, an ADU, or a quick rental refresh, we believe great design doesn’t have to be expensive or intimidating. It just has to be thoughtful.
